The Originals Sauvignon Blanc

The Originals Sauvignon Blanc

2023

Fume Blanc – Sauvignon Blanc with love handles.

$32.00

    Description

Planted in 1999, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the original plantings at Wangolina.

The 2023 vintage was delayed & particularly cooler with constant threats of wet weather passing overhead. However, it made for a season of long & steady ripening, bringing layering & depth into all of our wines. It features, as always, natural acid retention & wonderful purity of fruit.

The Originals Sauvignon Blanc was wild fermented & divided into three hogsheads to rest on fine lees for 4 months. Two of these were conditioned oak to retain purity of fruit, whilst the third was new, to bring an element of structure.

Aromas fill the room with tropical bursts of green pineapple, passionfruit, gooseberry, ripe grapefruit and a grassy edge. The palate portrays everything good about the grape, but with more tangible weight and creamy texture, that is evenly matched by some driving acidity. An element of warming, cedary oak provides a graceful undertow of structure that is sure to reward with medium to long term ageing.

Enjoy with some BBQ’d lobster or pork tenderloin!
