Description
Mencia is an alternative variety that originates from the Bierzo region in north-western Spain, and is extremely rare within Australia. We are fortunate to work with this variety thanks to some plantings in the Mundulla region of the Limestone Coast, South Australia.
Made in a ‘Vino Joven’ style, by way of hand plunging and shorter maturation time in conditioned oak to retain purity. We wish to exemplify the fresh, aromatic angle that makes this variety such a wonderful lunching red for a sunny afternoon.
Aromas of this wine are pure and focused of medicinal cherry & red liqourice strap. A bright, textured impression is made as it graces the palate of exotic goji berry, red cherry & cherry pip. Soft dusty black tea tannins keep the edges savoury with a gentle linger of earthy kola-nut.
Wonderful with a short chill before serving.
