The Originals Syrah

Bright, perfumed & fresh with fine fruit-derived savoury tannin & minerality. Contemporary Syrah to reflect Mt Benson's terroir.
Description
Planted in 1999, the Syrah is one of the original plantings at Wangolina. Like most of Australia, 2023 was a particularly late & cool vintage, resulting in brighter red wines. Handpicked on April 13th (the day before winter officially arrived). 50% of the fruit remained on stems, undertaking spontaneous fermented with gentle punch-downs. It was gently pressed into conditioned oak to rest for 11 months before bottling.
2023 Originals Syrah is youthful & vibrant of fresh summer mulberries, lavender & violet florals underpinned by a fine thread of white pepper. The palate expresses a style that is bright, textural and primary of summer berry coulis. Some natural acidity lift on the finish lingers with fine, peppery, fruit-derived tannins and even a note of chalky limestone and coastal minerality. It’s a wine we feel portrays our unique climate incredibly well.
