Project 5255 Malbec

Project 5255 is a ground-breaking winemaking experiment that offers winemakers two tonnes of fruit from Langhorne Creek to make a small-batch wine.
Description
The 2024 Project 5255 Malbec grapes were selectively harvested on the 6th of March from Kimbolton Vineyards ‘Lake Plains Road Vineyard’, clones MAT3 and MAT4. After crushing fermentation was encouraged by inoculation with a saccharomyces uvarum strain, which increases savoury and spicy characters. Hand plunged for gentle extraction to preserve vibrancy, then matured in 10% new French oak,1 puncheon and 8 barriques for 10 months prior to bottling.
Plenty of violet aromas preluding the sensation of standing under a ripe Mulberry tree in late summer. The palate brings luscious sweet berry fruit, raspberry and crunchy plum highlights carried by autumnal spice and buckets of texture. Trademark Langhorne Creek tannins that are so fine and dusty, but carry long enough to force you to stop and reconsider this wine as a ‘contemplate’ instead of a ‘guzzle’.
