A Series Gruner Veltliner

A Series Gruner Veltliner

2024

An intriguing, savoury alternative to a dry Riesling. The only Grüner Veltliner grown on the Limestone Coast.

$30.00

    Description

Beautiful Grüner Veltliner, an Austrian variety that we have totally fallen in love with. If you haven’t tried this variety before, think steely dry Riesling combined with the mouth-coating texture of a Pinot Gris.

2024 was a fine vintage for our vineyard. Not without its frost challenges early in the growing season, the dry and temperate ripening period ensured nicely toned ripeness was achieved whilst retaining plenty of natural acidity.

Fruit was hand-picked & de-stemmed, then split evenly between 3 seperate ferments. Stainless steel retains the variety & regions natural acidity, conditioned oak & ceramic egg shared the remains, where they lay for 4 months on fine lees to build depth & texture.

The nose is beautifully varietal & layered of meyer lemon, lemon sherbet & fresh, peppery, crunchy celery. As it hits the buds, the coating texture demands to be noticed, slowly unveiling fleshy white stone fruit & lemon rind edges. A broad & salivating spine of slate mineral acidity slowly drives the finish to a long, tingling finish with a touch of white pepper to linger.

92 points – Mike Bennie – "From Mount Benson, the Wachau of Australia. This has the right stuff. Good volume of flavour, almost medium weight, good personality with nashi pear, tonic water, cucumber juice, faint dill and some light ginger characters all meshing well. A cool, briny acid profile a pleasing boost that delivers the word minerality. It’s refreshing, easy to drink and good for its varietal stuff. Very likeable."

94 points – Lisa Cardelli – "Gently pungent, spicy, and herbal, with aromas that are vivid and detailed in their expression. Think fresh radish and white pepper, gooseberry and green bean. The palate is pristine and delicate, with a translucent character that simply works. The finish is all about finesse and subtlety. It’s a wine with quiet confidence and class."
