A Series Carmenere
2024
Deliciously intriguing. A variety that originates in Bordeaux, but made famous in Chile.
Description
Carmenere traces its origins to the Medoc region of Bordeaux, where it was predominately used as a blending variety. Only recently has it found its true home to shine as a singular variety in parts of Chile where it is now enjoyed by many around the world.
Our fruit was sourced from the Old Mundulla Vineyard, where it i the last grape to be picked of the vintage. Fermented for 14 days, it is then basket-pressed & left to mature for 18 months in conditioned oak.
Intriguing & playful aromas show varietal five-spice, red bell-peppers, mulberry leaf & red rose highlights. The palate slowly builds into a medium to full-bodied core of ripe red cherry & blackberry, with teasingly seductive hints of sweet habanero, chive & soy/five-spice highlights. The tannins are fine & grainy, finishing the wine on a gently drying note. A fun avenue to explore from the field of Cabernet or Merlot.
The lighter tannins & higher acidity pairs beautifully with the lamb & mint combination, or even better with its five-spice characters besides peking duck or kung pao chicken!
