A Series Carmenere
2021
Deliciously intriguing. A variety that originates in Bordeaux, but made famous in Chile.
Description
Carmenere traces its origins to the Medoc region of Bordeaux, where it was predominately used as a blending variety. Only recently has it found its true home to shine as a singular variety in parts of Chile where it is now enjoyed by many around the world.
Our fruit was sourced from the Old Mundulla Vineyard, where it was the last to be picked of the vintage. Fermented for 14 days, it was then basket-pressed & left to mature for 18 months in conditioned oak.
The tasting experience of this wine shares parallels with a brighter version of a Cabernet Sauvignon.
Aromas of red roses, earthy red brick, red bell-peppers & mulberry leaf make for a very enticing & playful albeit contemplative nose. The palate starts gently as it slowly builds to a medium-full bodied core of red mulberry & a teasingly seductive hints of sweet habanero. The tannins are fine & grainy, finishing the wine on a gently drying note.
The lighter tannins & higher acidity pairs beautifully with the lamb & mint combination or pork, or even darker white game such as turkey & duck.
