2021 Montepulciano

Widely grown across central Italy, this workhorse variety makes great value wines but also produces deeply coloured, rich and ripe wine with robust tannin. Like many of our alternative red varieties, we source this Montepulciano from the Mundulla area of the Limestone Coast.
Inclusion of whole berries and cold soaked for four days prior to ferment builds fruit flavour complexity in this wine. Matured for just six months in seasoned oak to allow some softening of the grape tannin without significant oak influence.
If you haven't tried this variety before, think a fleshy medium bodied wine. Primary varietal characteristics of red licorice and black cherry builds with some almond meal texture, finishing with it's signature dried oregano flavour complement the dusty Italianate tannins. This deserves a place at the table on any given pizza or pasta night.
