Montepulciano is an Italian variety that we have totally gone mad for. Widely grown across central Italy, this workhorse variety makes great value wines but also produces deeply coloured, rich and ripe wine with robust tannin. Like many of our alternative reds varieties, we source this Montepulciano from the Mundulla area of the Limestone Coast. If you haven't tried this variety before think a medium bodied fleshy and fun red wine. Red licorice, cinnamon spice, black cherry characters along with it's signature dried oregano flavour complement the rustic Italianate tannins.
Inclusion of whole berries and cold soaked for four days prior to ferment builds fruit flavour complexity in this wine. Matured for just six months in seasoned oak to allow some softening of the grape tannin without significant oak influence.
