2018 Originals Cabernet
Plum in colour, with a bright blackcurrant red plum and fresh tobacco aromatic the 2018 Cabernet is silky and refined. Complexing perfumed notes of violets and maraschino cherry which are typical to cool climate Cabernet.
In November 2017 the Wangolina vineyards were hit by a late and quite devastating frost where much of our Cabernet crop was lost. However as we got through the season it became apparent that the fruit that was left was gorgeous, so at the end of March 2018 we handpicked all 800kg of fruit to make this amazingly fragrant Cabernet. The grapes were handpicked and then fermented in small open fermenters, plunged twice per day. Fermentation took approx. 10 days to complete before the wines was pressed out into a mix of 25% new and 75% seasoned french oak barrels . The wine was allowed to mature for 20months prior to bottling.
