Marketing , Export, Production, Jack of all trades gal Georgia lives in Adelaide – booo we know – but it can be rather convenient for when there are events in town that need a staff member to attend and Anita has already been around Australia 3 times that month already…
Growing up on a farm nearby and with family in Robe and frequent visits, she is kind of a local anyways…kind of. We had a chat to Georgia about her go to’s in Adelaide for when you may want to venture to the ‘big smoke’.
*Disclaimer* I have two young children so I don’t get out a lot, I do my best, and would you believe that a lot of my favourites below just happen to stock Wangolina!?
First things first, coffee.
For me there is no going past Fix. Specialty Coffee in College Park. Really consistently great coffee, excellent food, plenty of outdoor spaces for the dog and a cubby house for the kids, not to mention the playground across the road. Winning.
Where to lunch with the ladies?
After a nice long lunch with the gals? Head to Olive Restaurant on Pirie St. An insanely good value and delicious Feed me menu and Wangolina Prosecco on tap, need I say more? Add in the perfect service and ambience and you have yourself a winning combination for fun with your friends.
Meals with the family?
As mentioned I have young kinds so mealtimes are crazy and we generally go to cafes or pubs with the kids. The Stanley Bridge up in Verdun is one of our favourites, beautiful food, great wine list and a huge beer garden that the kids can run around in, it’s also nice to escape the rat race and breathe in some fresh Adelaide Hills air everyone now and again. Closer to home we also frequent Bravo Café on the Parade. Kids meal deals and activity packs? Yes please. Easy, fast, delicious food in a bustling environment that keeps the kids entertained.
Date night?
On the rare occasion we get out for dinner sans kids we like to go to places with excellent service, where we can linger and enjoy ourselves. The place that comes to mind is Good Gilbert on Goodwood Road. Good Gilbert, the original venue of the GG’s slowly growing empire is your friendly neighbourhood wine bar, great for a drink and nibble or a full-blown meal. The staff are excellent and the wine list is exemplary.
Dinner with friends?
I love heading to Dolly on Unley Road for a fun dinner with friends. Dolly has a bit of a party vibe and makes me feel like I’m in an exciting city somewhere, not the back burbs’ of Adelaide. Sit at the bar for a drink or relax at a table with a chef’s choice menu. It’s fun and cool, and the food and drinks are delicious. Special bonus if you get Tony as your server for the night.
Late night drinks, what’s that?
If I do ever get out for a drink or have friends from interstate I like to head to SOL rooftop bar at EOS in the city. The views over Adelaide Oval and the river are spectacular and there is nothing better than the fresh open air on a warm summer’s night.
Where do you buy your booze?
There are some really great bottle shops in my area and I love ducking into either Regions Cellars in Dulwich or Parade Cellars in Norwood. Regions exclusively stocks South Australian Wine, Beer & Spirits and I’m constantly finding new things to drink here. Parade Cellars has a lot of South Aussie brands as well but will also have that French Champagne you have been craving. The staff in both are excellent and I would suggest asking for their recommendations.
Favourite Wangolina wine?
My absolute go-to of the Wangolina range is the Grüner Veltliner. I must confess, I love a Riesling and unfortunately, we don’t make one, but the Grüner satisfies all of my crisp acidic needs, while adding some extra warmth and roundness at the same time. To me, it’s kind of like a Riesling, kind of like a Pinot Gris, and heading towards Chardonnay in structure, but not quite there. It has something for everyone and if I have friends coming over and I’m not sure of their preference, the Grüner goes in the fridge, it’s a crowd pleaser for sure.
The wine pairing you didn’t know you needed?
And finally the wine pairing you didn’t know you needed? Not your typical pairing, I like my wine best served with a clean house, feet up on the couch and kids asleep. Perfection!
